Cookies, Cookies, and more cookies

December 4, 2011 1 comment

Cookies, I can see for miles, and miles. Cookies.Well, it is that time of year again. Boy how the time flies! Every year right before Christmas, my wife goes on a baking bonanza for us to take to work. Snack wise, it is the best time of the year.

Now, you may have noticed a certain lack of gluttonous behavior here. The GBoys have been dieting. Well, it is partially that, and partially we have just been busy doing other stuff.

Ok, back to the baking. Let me tell you, it is great waking up in the morning to the awesome aroma of fresh baked cookies, and bread. Hopefully the house will smell this way all week.

All of this is a small price to pay for having to clean the kitchen! Honestly though, she does a pretty good job of cleaning as she goes, so by the time I have to clean the rest, it isn’t so bad.

The treats being baked today are: Comfort Cookies, which is a new addition this year. Others are chocolate chip pudding cookies, chocolate crinkles cookies, magic cookie bars, fudge, Amish Friendship Bread, and peanut butter kiss cookies, with dark chocolate kisses on top. Did I mention that I love dark chocolate? The. Best. All of them surely to reek havoc on the diet. But I can return when the treats are gone.

Oh yeah, while the cookies will be great for the guys and gals tomorrow at work, sneaking some when they are fresh out of the oven is the best way! Not sure if it is because when warm they taste even better, or if it is because I grabbed them when the wife wasn’t looking…

Breakfast is the best

mmmm Frittata!

mmmm Frittata!

I must say,  breakfast is my favorite meal.  Eggs,  either fried or scrambled,  homemade hash browns,  and the ever popular BACON.  This is not about one of those.  This is much more!

This is about Big Daddy’s Sausage,  Red Pepper,  and Feta Frittata. I can safely call my wife a Food Network freak.  She watches it all the time.  And of course,  the benefit is I get to try all kinds of good stuff!

Let me tell you,  the aromas wafting through the house were amazing,  I could really smell the sweet Italian sausage, and other ingredients.  I could hardly wait for it to finish so I could have some.

And since it needed to rest for 10 minutes,  I took the opportunity take a few pictures.  Just be careful if you want move it for a better angle,  do not touch the handle without protection.  It is HOT.

So,  grab the recipe and give it a shot.  You will not be disappointed.

Gluttonous Fare!

Bacon Dogs

I was watching Man vs. Food a week or so ago, he was in Tucson. One of the places he went had what was called a Sonoran Dog.  A hot dog wrapped in bacon in a home made bun topped with pinto beans, and bunch of other goodies.

I figured I would give it the old gringo try.  Big and fat Hebrew National hot dogs,  and thick sliced smoked bacon.  Oh yea,  I sliced the dogs down the middle to accommodate some cheddar cheese.  Threw them on the trusty BBQ grill with some hamburgers  and we were all set!

Oh,  and the hamburgers had egg,  italian bread crumbs,  Tabasco, red pepper flakes,  and worcestershire sauce in them.  Next time I think I will up the quantity of Tabasco!

A most tasty treat.  Highly recommended.  And don’t forget your favorite cold beverage!

smashburger

Smashburger finally opened a restaurant on the west side of the valley. This one is at the SW corner of 99th Ave and McDowell. Usually, the west side is the last to get a new restaurant, or store. This is the second store in the valley to open, the first was in Tempe.

Having heard very little about smashburger, I did not know what to expect, was it fast food, or was it going to be a sit down restaurant? Turns out it was somewhere in between. You order at the counter, then your food is delivered to you.

Now, since I am a smashburger newbie, I didn’t customize my burger…too much. I ordered the 1/2 pound (also available in 1/3lb) classic, only changing the American cheese to habanero cheese. Much better, IMNSHO.

It is hard to tell from the picture, but once you pick it up, you can tell how the restaurant got its name. It is literally a smashed burger. I would have taken another picture for you to see it better, but once I picked it up, I could not set it down. Great flavor, awesome burger. You WILL get your hands messy!

Next time, I will getting it with a fried egg!

And, this is not your typical semi-fast joint. They have BEER, and wine. The beer is available in bottles, and a frosted mug if you like. The wine comes in one of those tiny single serve bottles. For gluttonous fare, you have to have alcohol. Just ask any gluttony boy!

BTW, this is my first post using the WordPress app for Android. Although I did edit the post on my computer…
